Ball Gowns
Some wonder what a ballgown is, as opposed to just another other prom dress. Ball gowns are sometimes called "princess dresses" as they look a lot like the dresses you might see in Disney classics such as "Cinderella" and "Beauty and the Beast". Ball gown dresses are those that have a very poofy full skirt like ones you might see worn by Scarlett O'Hara in the classic motion picture movie "Gone With the Wind."
In historic times around 1800's, ball gown styles were also incorporated into every day wear. At the time they were less fancy than a formal gown, but still the same silouhette of a tight fitting bodice with a full skirt. You can see this in many period movies such as Tombstone or, again, Gone With the Wind. There are many scenes of the young women wearing ballgown style dresses in the old south during everyday activities.
Ballgowns can flatter any body type but are especially good for those who want to hid their hips because, by definition, a ballgown poofs out at the hips, hiding this area of the body. Smaller girls may also like the ball gown dress if they have have little or no curves and want to give the illusion of a curvy body.
A specific situation where ballgowns are worn is the quinceanera event. A quinceanera is the event that marks a milestone in the Hispanic culture for a girl's fifteenth birthday. The quinceanera dress, or ballgown, is a very important part of this day. The traditional colors for a quinceanera dress ballgown are white or pink. However, recently, girls are choosing quinceanera dresses in every color of the rainbow.
Ballgowns have really changed in the past five years. There are so many more style options these days. From pick-up skirts to classic tulle you will find a variety as far as the skirt of the ball gown. Many of them have sequin embelishments on the skirt. And anything now goes with ball gown colors. Many girls these days are choosing black ballgowns which has become a color choice option for the princess gown within the last few years. Ballgowns are no longer just designed for one type of girl. Some are classic, yet some are edgy and funky. You will also find a variety of bodice styles witht he ballgown fromt he classic strapless sweetheart neckline to the trendy one-shoulder design ballgown. Whatever your style, there is sure to be a ballgown to suit your taste.
The best ballgown line is, by far, Vizcaya dresses by Mori Lee. There are several reasons for this. The number one reason is the amazing fit. In our opinion, a young girl in her high school years should at some point consider a ballgown as her formal dance dress. The reason is that every girl at some point in her life wants to look like Cinderella and what better way than to choose a ball gown for her prom. Looking like a princess in a fairty tale is the dream of almost every little girl so take the opportunity to wear a ballgown while you can. There are many possible formal events in a girl's lifetime, from cruise formals to corporate black tie events. But you will probably never see a woman in a ballgown. Make your moment and take advantage of wearing a ballgown when you can still pull it off!
