If you have a low back prom  prom dress, you want to show it off so wear an up-do, unless you have short hair.

If your prom gown is simple, you should add an accessory to your hair.  Try a flower, ribbons, or a hair clip.

If your prom gown is very elegant, you want to stick with an elegant hairstyle, so it doesn't clasH with your dress.  Try an up-do with curls.  Avoid the spikes, they are spunky and will not give your elegant look.  Anything with soft curls or even something simple and down will be wonderful. If you don't want to spend a lot of money, you can do a side part and put hair up in a bun or even a pony with a rhinestone clip.

If your prom dress is very bright, you might want to go with a spunky hairstyle, like a spiked style or tight curls or crimped and wild.

If you have a vintage prom gown, you might want to stick with something simple that does not take away from the dress.  Try a half up-do or even go all down.

Whatever style prom dress you have and whatever style you are trying to go for, you should experiment and talk to your hairstylist.  See what she/he thinks will look best with your hair type and length (and your dress).  Bring your prom dress with you and have her help you with your style if you have no idea what you want.
